Stefano Mesa tops the local Champions to win the CCS Florida “SHOOTOUT”

Stefano Mesa, the 16 year old Columbian-American rider, had a weekend of firsts at the Homestead-Miami Speedway on February 13, 2011. Not only was it the first race weekend of the season on his new Ducati 1098 but the first time to ever win the “SHOOTOUT”. Riding on soft compound DUNLOP DOT D211GP tires and not racing slicks, like the other competitors, he was one of the youngest riders to ever win the feature event of the day (better known as “The Shootout”). Mesa was proclaimed the top winner of the day. Mesa definitely leaves an impression and shows his ability to adapt as he switched between a Yamaha R6 and a Ducati 1098R throughout the race day. His resilience brought him from the back of the pack to a win over Sean Dwyer and Santiago Villa.

“Stefano Mesa is THE up and comer in Florida and brings healthy competition to the industry”, said Steve Brubaker President of Race Tire Service Inc., The Dunlop Distributor for the Eastern USA.

Mesa, a Columbia, South America native, currently resides with his parents in Boca Raton, FL, and doesn’t have far to go heading into the Daytona weekend. The 16-year-old plans to race locally as much as he can by participating in AMA, the CCS series, some WERA and Latin America Championship races too.
