Dunlop Wins its 29th Daytona 200

Buffalo, NY: When Kenny Roberts won the 1983 Daytona 200 on Dunlop tires, it marked the beginning of a long Dunlop dynasty at the fabled Florida tri-oval. Since then, Dunlop has won the prestigious event 29 times, including the 2017 race with three-time winner Danny Eslick.

For this year’s event, it was an open tire rule, meaning riders were allowed to run any brand of tire then wanted. In addition to Eslick on the TOBC Racing Yamaha 600, six of the top ten finishers chose to run on Dunlop slick tires made specifically for Daytona at Dunlop’s Buffalo, NY manufacturing facility.

In addition to Eslick’s dramatic win on the last lap, a long-standing lap record was broken. Valentin Debise on the M4 The 22 Project ECSTAR Suzuki 600 set a new unofficial track record for a 600 on the long course on lap 12 of the race with a 1:48.903, eclipsing Jason Disalvo’s 1:49.60 lap record set in 2012.

Dunlop would like to congratulate all the Daytona 200 competitors on a great race.

MOHAM RIDES DUNLOP TO 5 MORE MRA TRACK RECORDS

Shannon Moham, Dunlop Race Tire Service, Imperial Sportsbikes, Motorcycle RacingDunlop rider Shannon Moham continued his record-setting summer by notching another five track records during MRA racing over the August 27-28 weekend at Pueblo Motorsports, including Race of the Rockies GTU, Middleweight Endurance, Heavyweight Endurance, Heavyweight SuperSport, and the qualifying round record in the Race of the Rockies GTU. Earlier this summer Moham set two track marks at Pueblo and three at High Plains, all during MRA racing.

Riding his Imperial Sportsbikes tuned Yamaha R6, Moham used both Dunlop’s GP-A Pro 7455 Medium compound and Dunlop’s US Slick 7455 Medium compound over the weekend. He started his record pace on Saturday with three track records, each of which had been around for a little over two years. Moham posted a 1:32.438 time in the Heavyweight SuperSport, lowering the track record by six-tenths of a second. He shaved nearly 1.5 seconds off the track mark in the Heavyweight Endurance with a 1:33.377 lap and cut 1.4 seconds off the record in the Middleweight Endurance with a 1:34.322 time.

On Sunday he bested his own track marks in Race of the Rockies GTU with a 1:33.269 lap in Qualifying, three-tenths of a second better than the qualifying time he laid down in June 2015. In the competition Moham topped out at a 1:33.564 lap, a full second better than the track mark he set also in June 2015.

Moham now owns 12 different track records at Pueblo Motorsports Park.

MRA racing wraps up with the season finale at High Plains Raceway on September 17-18. Moham and fellow Dunlop rider Ryan Burke are in position to win the points titles in several different classes including the Overall Clubman and a potential sweep of the Race of the Rockies Overall, GTU, and GTO titles.

DUNLOP SWEEPS PACIFIC RACEWAYS PODIUM TWICE

Sam Verderico, Dunlop Race Tire Service Motorcycle RacingLed by #1 Plate Sam Verderico, Dunlop riders twice swept the Formula Ultra podium during WMRRA racing at Pacific Raceways over the August 27-28 weekend. Dunlop riders dominated the premier Formula Ultra Class during the weekend, claiming all three spots on the podium during Saturday’s races with Verderico taking first place, Danny Lippis second place, and Mark DeGross third place. The trio finished in the same order during Formula Ultra race on Sunday.

“My Dunlops have been perfect,” Verderico said of his US Made slicks. “I haven’t set a wheel wrong all year at either the National or the Club level. These things rock!”

Verderico, who rides the new DUNLOP KR448 soft compound front and the DUNLOP KR451 rear, also earned wins in the Open SuperSport and Open SuperBike races this weekend.

DeGross, with the help of his podium finishes in the Formula Ultra races, sits in first place in the points standings with a 92 point lead over Verderico in second place with just one more round of racing remaining in the WMRRA season.

But perhaps the most surprising results of the weekend came from Lippis, who made his first appearance at Pacific Raceway since 2008 and still managed to earn a spot on the podium in both Formula Ultra races.

The WMRRA season wraps up with the sixth and final leg of racing on September 17-18 back at Pacific Raceways.
