RYAN BURKE CLAIMS MRA-RECORD 4TH CONSECUTIVE CHAMPIONSHIP

Dunlop’s Ryan Burke won the Race of the Rockies during Round 6 of the MRA Championship series over the September 8-9 weekend at High Plains Raceway, Burke’s fifth Race of the Rockies victory of 2018 to secure the season points championships, the fourth consecutive season he’s won the No. 1 plate.

Burke is the first rider in the 45 year history of the MRA circuit to win four consecutive championships. He did it in style, riding his Dunlop KR448 front and KR451 rear slicks to a 1:23.326 final lap pace, an absolute track record for the High Plains West Course.

“(My Dunlop slicks) simply work,” Burke said. :”The edge grip, tire feedback and durability are exceptional.” Burke set his bike up with 2662 soft fronts and 0455 medium rears.

The Race of the Rockies features the best riders and the most powerful bikes, but Burke set the pace early on in the race and continued to better his time each lap, leading into his record-setting final lap. Burke has now placed in all six of the Race of the Rockies rounds this season, with five wins and one third place finish. His 171 championship points are 55 more than second place Dan Turner, who also rides Dunlops.

Dunlop Riders Dominate WERA Triple Crown +1 at Road Atlanta

Buffalo, NY: Braving conditions at a rain-soaked Road Atlanta this past Sunday, Brad Burns and Billy Ethridge took first and second respectively on Dunlop tires in the WERA Triple Crown +1 Presented by Honda.

While all of the Sunday road races were run on a wet track, the WERA Triple Crown +1 riders had to compete in a deluge. Despite the conditions, Burns and Ethridge made big waves on their Dunlop KR189 front and KR404 rear tires.

The WERA Triple Crown +1 race was originally scheduled for 11-laps but was red-flagged after three. When the rain eased up, the race was restarted as an eight-lap race, with the riders gridding in their original positions.

After leaving the competition in his wake, Burns said, “At Road Atlanta, it’s pretty exciting going down the back straight at about 160 in the rain, trying to avoid the paint lines and puddles while braking hard for turn ten. When it was raining really hard before the race was stopped, we were running at a pace about 30-seconds slower than my dry times. In the end we were running at about 10-seconds off our dry-track pace. I’m used to the Dunlops and knew I’d have the best tires through to the end.”

Second place finisher, 48-year-old defending Triple Crown champion Ethridge, said, “During the first start it seemed like the water was over a foot deep at the bottom of the hill before the Esses, and there was a river coming down the hill after turn one. So I took the first few laps of the restart easy to sort out the best lines. There’s a lot of grip with the Dunlop rain tires in the wet, but the speed is so fast it really gets your attention.”

Development Manager for Dunlop Motorcycle Tires in North America, Mick Jackson, said; “All of us at Dunlop congratulate Brad and Billy for their efforts. We saw great performances out of these riders despite the conditions and are excited to see the continued competition in this series.”

The Dunlop tires used by WERA riders are available to all other club racers are the same tires used by pro racers in the MotoAmerica series, where Dunlop is the official tire supplier.

Dunlop Hits 30 at Daytona

Buffalo, NY: The 77th running of the fabled Daytona 200 produced a familiar face atop the final podium: Danny Eslick dominated the race on his TOBC Racing Yamaha R6 to take his fourth Daytona 200 victory.

Eslick, averaged 95.834 mph, and credited his crew with their preparation of a spare engine forced into use after the team’s first engine failed during Friday’s qualifying.

Eslick’s victory marked the 30th time a Dunlop rider has won the Daytona 200. Daytona has an open-class tire rule—riders can run whatever brand tire they prefer—and Dunlop has been the overwhelming choice at Daytona for many decades. Eslick’s tires were made in America at Dunlop’s Buffalo plant, and are available to club and pro riders through dunlopracing.com.

RACE TIRE SERVICE NOW CARRIES DP RACING PADS

RTS will now carry the racing line of DP PADS on our eCommerce site and on selected trackside trucks.

DP gets is roots as far back as World War II  when Dunlop Aviation in England began pioneering disk brake technology.  Dunlop Aviation again took the initiative, introducing sintered metal disc brake pads in 1955.   Dunlop Aviation was later commissioned by the British Government to incorporate sintered disc brake technology for motorcycle applications. Thus was born DP BRAKES.
